MESSAGE FROM THE DESK OF OUR PRINCIPAL
I am excited to join the Brown Middle School Family as its new Principal. Although I am new to Brown, I am not new to this wonderful community as I served as the Principal at E. L. Connally Elementary School for five years prior to my appointment at Brown.
Our motto this year will be “Every Child, Every Chance, Every Day!” We are truly committed to raising the bar of academic excellence and finding the essential resources and instructional tools to meet the diverse academic needs of our students. In order to make this occur, I will be working closely with faculty, parents, students, and the community to develop a plan of action to address four (4) strategic areas. These areas are as follows:
- Student achievement in the areas of math and science
- 6th and 8th grade transitioning
- Maintaining an orderly and safe school
- Student support
In time, J. E. Brown Middle will be the premier middle school in Atlanta. I think you will feel and experience a sense of newness and excitement as you walk through the halls of our school. I hope that you will feel welcome as you become involved with your child’s experiences at Brown Middle. Throughout the school year, your child’s teacher and I will be making a special effort to stay in touch with you. We will keep you informed of your child’s progress and school activities. Monthly Principal Roundtables will be held the first Friday of each month for parents to communicate their concerns and offer suggestions to enhance our wonderful school.
This year, we are also striving to make the Atlanta Public Schools (APS) goal, which is “By 2007, 100 percent of APS schools will meet or exceed 70% of their targets while closing the achievement gap.” In order to meet this goal, team work will be essential. We will certainly work on our end to provide your child with the best education possible. Let’s work together to make this an excellent school year in every way!
Education is a journey, not a destination. Let’s always be reminded of our ultimate purpose, to educate and care for the children. This is certainly a simplified version of what we want to achieve at our school. Highly qualified and well-trained teachers have been hired. Our mission has been shared with all, and the teachers value that mission. They hold high expectations of themselves and the children they teach. They will offer a strong foundation of support, so success is attainable for all.
Again, welcome to the new school year and I look forward in working closely with you and your child this year.
Sincerely,
Donell Underdue, Jr., Principal
