Comprehensive School Reform (CSR)
Burgess-Peterson Academy is a Title 1 Co-nect School. As a Co-nect School, students engage in project-based learning and authentic assessments. Students work in groups to learn how to approach and solve problems. Project-based learning allows learners to engage in interdisciplinary, hands-on, authentic learning experiences that are connected to real life. Projects/topics of study are based on standards, student interests and the availability of resources. Teachers arrange opportunities for students to demonstrate to peers, community members, the principal, parents and others what they have learned. The learners and teachers develop a rubric(s) at the beginning of the process. These rubrics; (a) let the learners know what the goals are, (b) clarify exactly what is expected of the learner and (c) hold the learner accountable. As a result of these interactive learning experiences, Burgess’ students will engage in three (3) culminating activities that will allow them to demonstrate their collaborative, decision-making, research, reflective and organizational skills in a non-traditional approach.
