About the Media Center
Hours
The Capitol View Elementary School media center is open from 7:30 in the morning until 3:00 in the afternoon on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. On Tuesdays the media center closes at 2:40 and on Wednesdays it closes at 3:30 in the afternoon.
Visits
Students are encouraged to use the media center to check out books, to conduct research, browse through the collection, and/or use the available technology.
Whole-class visits are collaboratively planned by teachers and the media specialist.
Small groups and individuals may be sent to use the media center by a teacher at any time during the school day with a hall pass.
Circulation
Students are allowed to check out one book at a time for a one-week period. Overdue notices are sent tot he homeroom classes each week. Check-out privileges are suspended until the student can either return the item in question or pays for the overdue item. Students and/or parents should see the media specialist to pay for any lost or damaged items.
Staff members check out books and audio-visual materials for units of study for a period of one-month.
Back issues of magazines are checked out for a three-day period. Materials can be placed on reserve for use in the media center when an entire grade level is studying a particular unit.
Reference books should be used in the media center.
Audio-visual equipment must be requested by 3:30pm on the day before planned use, and must be returned by the end of the day which it is used.
All media center materials must be check out.
