Art Program

Grove Park Elementary School has a highly diverse art program. Students are taught color theory, art history and various art terms from their art textbooks while participating in a variety of activities such as computer graphics, drawing, painting, sewing, weaving sculpture, collage and jewelry design. Students are also required to research their own art projects, read and follow directions and execute their creative desires while participating in these activities.

The Grove Park art program gives students an opportunity for self expression and is designed to touch visual learners, reinforce and support subjects such as math, reading, etc., and support the APS goals for intellectually challenging students.

Our Society is Reflected in it's Art Forms

Students Enhanced By Computer Arts

Students at Grove Park are ahead of the times. Since the revolution of technology has changed the world, it has also changed the way we view and create art. It’s time for crayons, markers, and glue to move over for a new medium--the mouse.

In visiting any art school, computer art has become a requirement. There is a demand for it in web design, publications, animation, and even video. Only a few high schools have introduced it to their students.

Seemingly, many college students are hired by major corporations to create various digital art designs because of the lack of talent within the corporation. With the demand for digital arts throughout the world, and given a jump on the digital arts, there is no reason why Grove Park students won’t have great opportunities ahead of them. They are becoming familiar with the digital arts at their young age.

At Grove Park, students have the opportunity to learn to scan, draw and paint using their computer mouse. They are also learning animation, presentation, publication design, and how such characters found in Nintendo games and movies are developed and animated. What’s awesome about this is that it enhances their reading, math, and critical thinking skills as they manipulate technology and become more computer savvy.

Last year, five students were awarded computer arts certificates for the potential they demonstrated. They actually demonstrated college level potential as they advanced themselves by requesting the instruction manual on their own in order to read and figure out more technology techniques. The art teacher has beenastounded and delighted with student potential and will forge ahead to give students more digital arts experiences. Parents, please keep your children encouraged and allow them to explore and create on their computer. Who knows, the next Steven Spielberg or great Nintendo game designer just may be your child.
