AMERICA'S CHOICE

MISSION STATEMENT

All students will meet or exceed system, state and national academic Standards as measured by the Iowa Test of Basic Skills, Georgia Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests, Georgia Kindergarten Assessment Program and The Georgia Writing Assessment.

At L. P. Miles Elementary we will continue to implement the America's Choice/Georgia's Choice whole school reform design. All students will be engaged in literacy activities for at least two hours per day. The design and literacy coaches will work with teachers on a daily basis on strategies to enable students to read and write on a higher level.

We will continue to implement two of the components of our America's Choice Reform Design.

*Twenty-Five Books Campaign - We want each student to read twenty-five books or one million words this year. Students are to maintain a book log in their classroom. They will be recognized and rewarded for their efforts at mid-term and at the end of the school year.

*Principal's Book of the Month - Dr. Jack will read a book each month to all students. It will be the student's responsibility to write responses to the book for ideas that may be used in his or her own writings.

Parents are invited to attend the book reading on the first school day of each month and join in the dialogue.
