High School Science Instructional ProgramThe high school instructional program provides quality laboratory-based courses and research based investigative experiences for all students. Investigations are relevant to contemporary social issues in science and technology. Students are constantly involved in the exploration and inquiry-based investigation of scientific concepts. Curriculum A standards-based curriculum aligned with the National Science Education Standards, QCC Standards and GPS Standards is utilized in all high schools. The curriculum focuses on four strands: Physical Science, Life Science, Earth Science, and Process Skills. Therefore, high school courses are in two categories, Biological Sciences or Physical Sciences . The four Science Carnegie Units required for graduation are based on the successful completion of courses from these two categories. The following science courses are offered in the Atlanta Public Schools: Physical Sciences

Laboratory activities, equipment/materials, content software, Essential Laboratories, Essential Vocabulary, Georgia Department of Education Learning Connections, and various community resources are used in the implementation of the curriculum. High School Laboratories/Experimentation All high schools courses must have laboratory experiences as the major components of instruction for every course. The following procedure/support are in place to ensure that our students will have quality and intensive instruction.
Assessment The purpose of assessment is to improve instruction. Quality instruction is the best preparation for any assessment. The following assessments are effectively implemented during the school year:
*Tutorials for students and workshops for teachers are provided monthly Field Trip and Enrichment Opportunities Field trips are encouraged in order to expose students to specific content.
