Greetings Parents, Staff, Students and Community members. As we move into the month of November, we will focus heavily on safety for our students. Here at G.A. Towns we realize that in order for teachers to teach and students to learn we must provide a safe, clean and orderly environment.
Our goal is to ensure thaat we continue to provide an exmplary instructional program in a safe and constructive environment - before, during and after school. To this end, we are reminding parents that the building is not open for students until 7:30 am unless prior arreangements have been made with Mrs. Torrey. Teachers' and staff members' offical work day begins at 7:30 am, therefore no personnel is available to supervise early students. Please do not drop students off or send them to school before 7:30 am.
In order to keep students and staff safe and secure during the school day, it is mandatory that all visitors report to the office, sign in and obtain a visitor's pass.
Finally, to ensure that all students leave the campus and return home safely, we are requesting that parents respect the directions given by staff members on duty and observe the placement of the safety cones in the afternoon. Also, please be considerate of other students and parents as you pick your child up in the afternoon.
I am confident that as we work together in the best interest of our students, Towns will continue to experience success!
Towns Elementary School is proud to annouce the "kick-off" of the Accelerated Reader program. This is a web-based program which has an emphasis on increasing the overall level of Reading comprehension.
The Accelerated Reader program is up and running. This program consists of leveled reading books which are selected by the student and teacher on a weekly basis. The students read the book, complete a book report and finally checks for understanding by way of a computer-based comprehension exam.
The student has to master the material at a minimum of 80% to recieve points. The points are based on the complexity of the book in terms of vocabulary level and sentence length. On a monthly basis the points will be tallied and rewards will be given on a monthly basis based on appropriated grade level accumulation of points. Rewards include: school supplies, food cupons, CD players and portable DVD players.
